Comprehensive General Fitness Assessment

Our Fitness Assessment consists of a complete Medical and Health History questionnaire and a comprehensive series of tests designed to evaluate your specific needs and challenges.     Recent studies have shown that individuals in their 70's, 80's and even 90's can improve their overall health with the properly designed exercise programs. At Fitness Together, we have a passion for helping our senior population stay active and independent. The rate of falls among persons 65 and older is about 30 percent, and among persons 80 or older, 50 percent. Of those elderly who do fall, about 10 percent sustain a serious injury, such as a fracture, joint dislocation, or severe head injury according to "Doctor's Guide Publishing Limited."   • Alternative Fitness Programs for Obesity and Gastric Bypass Surgery

    According to the American Society of Bariatric Surgery (ASBS), 45,000 individuals elected to have gastric bypass surgery, up from the 25,000 who went for it in 1995. Choosing this procedure is not necessarily a cure. In fact, 24% of those who have gastric bypass surgery gain all of their weight back. Because of the limited food intake, those who undergo the surgery must eat tiny portions for the rest of their lives, and are banned forever from favorite foods like red meat, milk or sweets. Choosing foods that are not on the restricted diet can lead to nausea, fainting, and intestinal upsets.

    According to the National Institutes of Health, which in 1991 created the criteria for weight loss surgery patients, one-third of gastric surgery patients develop gallstones, or clumps of cholesterol and other matter that form in the gallbladder. Ten to 20 percent of weight-loss operations require follow-up operations to correct serious complications and according to ASBS 3 out of 100 people who undergo bypass surgery will die on the operating table or from complications following surgery. The average cost for bypass surgery is $25,000 - $40,000, and is not covered by many insurance companies.
